Kale Chips

If you’ve never tried kale, kale chips would be the place to start!

These kale chips are so delicious that I eat a full pan to myself! I treat them like popcorn. =)

First things first… ORGANIC. You must start with fresh organic kale. Green kale is best for chips because it is curlier than purple kale. As it bakes, the kale shrinks. The flatter the pieces, the more likely to bake straight to the pan liner making it hard to get off. The curlier, the less likely it is to stick to your liner of choice and the curls help hold in whatever delicious ingredients you add to the kale.

So back to ORGANIC! I’m not sure what it is about non-organic kale (must be the way they genetically modify it), but it does NOT work for chips. It falls apart while washing, stays soggy, takes longer to bake, and doesn’t taste as good as organic kale. So, just start with organic kale and you’ll be good to go!

Preheat oven to 350°. After washing and a little shake, break the leaves off the large stem into bite sized pieces. Don’t worry about leaving some water on them, it only helps to steam them in the oven.

Spread them evenly along the pan and spray with olive oil or coconut oil. I suggest using a Misto. My boyfriend bought us a Misto from Bed, Bath & Beyond for a good price. So worth not to ithave the chemicals and know what you’re spraying on your food. Then, use your hands or tongs to flip the kale over and spray the other side.

After oiling them, I grind Pink Himalayan Salt generously over the kale. Check out its benefits! You can also use Bamboo Salt, which has incredible benefits.

Sometimes, I grind fresh black pepper over the kale too, but my 4 year old doesn’t like the spice of it, so I’ve found other delicious ingredients. These particular kale chips are covered in nutritional yeast! Add as much or as little as you like. It mimics cheese in a way and adds just the right kind of flavor. Click it to see its benefits!

Put them on the middle rack in the oven and bake for 8 minutes. Then broil for 3-5 minutes. Do NOT over bake/broil! Keep an eye on them because they burn easily. A little browning is good though since that’s what makes them chips. Once you see that, take ’em out and try ’em!

I dare you to share ’em!
